About

Connection. Intuition. Peace.
Always looking up.

Stephanie Hooper is a cloudscape artist living with her husband and children near the coast of southern Rhode Island.

Her work begins with the sky — observed daily, from a coastline where the weather is forever rewriting itself. Working primarily in oils, she builds her skies in a gentle impasto, layering luminous, high-keyed light until a passing moment is persuaded to hold still. What began as a way to recover from burnout — the practice simple, almost incidental — slowly metamorphosed into something devotional: a world where always looking up is more than a metaphor.

These paintings belong to Cloudmere — an imagined country of skies that emerged, unbidden, from years of attention to changing light. It is less a place than a way of seeing: the conviction that the ordinary sky overhead is worth lingering over, and that beauty, freely noticed, is its own quiet luxury.

Stephanie came to Rhode Island the way she comes to most things — by following her soul, and a desire for beauty rather than caution. She and her family traded a lifetime of West Coast living for the New England shore for no better reason than that it was lovely. The beaches reminiscent of their Southern California youth with the added benefit of watch the sun rise from the ocean and the setting into again after a full day.

Alongside her painting, she is the founder of Begonia Hill, a heritage-minded house of stationery, prints, and gifts for the home — little luxuries for a life well lived.
